ACE TIPS: DESIGNING
FOR BACKLIT
DISPLAYS
Special Fabric

Our backlit products use a special fabric

When designing for your backlit display, it is important to keep some key factors in mind. Our backlit products use a special fabric that is designed to be illuminated by lights from within.

Fabric
properties

This fabric has some unique properties compared to fabric that is designed to be lit from the front. In order to achieve the best outcome, please note the following when designing for your backlit display.

notes when designing for
your backlit display

Avoid Dark

Avoid large areas of solid black
or very dark color

Because the fabric needs to allow light to shine through the fabric to illuminate the printed colors, very dark colors can appear to be washed out or faded. This is especially true for large areas of solid black. We recommend avoiding large areas of solid black or very dark color. For best results, use light and/or bright colors rather than dark colors.

backlit vs
frontlit colors

Please keep in mind that the eye perceives backlit vs. frontlit colors differently. As a result, the difference in colors between backlit and frontlit products can seem significant, even if they are the same color.

Backlit Graphic

graphic

Please note that when you receive your backlit display graphic, out of the box the colors may look different than you expect. You will need to assemble your display, install the graphic, and turn on the lights in order to see accurate colors. Our printers are calibrated for color accuracy only once the graphic is lit. The colors may not be accurate if the graphic is not backlit.
